Ahh historical romances, one of my many guilty pleasures. The covers are horrible and super cheesy, the plots are usually very similar and the main dumb goal, in most cases, is to marry a high ranking noble man. Yet, I still love these suckers. Suffering through tons of really bad ones has been totally worth it when I come across gems such as Love and Other Scandals. I love the characters developed by Caroline Linden, they’re smart, funny and very well developed. The heroine in this story isn’t some simpering idiot, she is strong minded and outspoken. I also loved the simplicity of the story. There’s no unnecessary conflict or insurmountable problem to overcome. While I still enjoy mystery romances and complicated plots, it’s nice to have just a straightforward romance.
I’m really happy to have come across a new historical romance author. I can’t wait to read the rest of Caroline Linden’s books.
Happy Galentine’s Day! Today we are celebrating Galentine’s with our lovely friend Dianne from Miami Food Pug. As huge Parks & Recreation fans, we decided to hang out and celebrate our friendship. If you haven’t seen the TV show Parks and Recreation (OMG you totally should!), there’s a crazy awesome character called Leslie Knope played by hilarious Amy Poehler. She celebrates Galentine’s, the best holiday of the year, every February 13th with her gal pals.
The holiday usually involves waffles because Leslie Knope loves waffles. So when Dianne presented her Galentine’s gift, it couldn’t have been more appropriate – adorably packaged waffle mix. Check out the episode for all of our shenanigans and gift ideas for Galentine’s. Enjoy!
Welcome to our sixteenth episode of our video podcast the Izzie & Coco Book Review Show. This is a special episode as it is the first show with a guest! We welcome Amy from Reel Pages Bite (reelpagesbite.com) to review Soulless by Gail Carriger. Soulless is the first book of the series The Parasol Protectorate. We love this series. It’s one of our favorite paranormal romance book series. This steampunk novel is set in London during Victorian times. The main character, Alexia Tabarotti is a preternatural, which means she is soulless in a world where supernatural creatures have excess soul. Her state of lack of soul also gives her the power of neutralizing supernatural creatures like vampires and werewolves. As long as Alexia maintains contact with supernaturals, they become human. Alexia gets tied up in a murder investigation and vampires seem to be appearing around London without being claimed by a hive or trained in social etiquette. Alexia must navigate these dangerous waters and deal with the unrefined alpha of the London Pack Lord Maccoon.
Gail Carriger develops a cast of amazing characters that will leave you wanting to know more about them. We recommend this book and series with a resounding YAY! Let us know what you thought! Welcome to our third episode of our video podcast the Izzie & Coco Book Review Show. In this episode we talk about a really cute book, Romancing The Duke by Tessa Dare. If you are looking for a quick historical romance, we recommend the story of Izzy Goodnight. She is a kind hearted, imaginative, impoverished girl who crosses paths with an antagonistic and cynical Duke. Circumstances compel them to live together in a castle in ruins and put up with each other. A tale of the likes of a historical J.K. Rowling romance that is so adorable you will gobble it up. As always, don’t forget to participate, we love hearing from our readers/viewers. If you found a book you love because of our recommendations or share an absolute love or hate for a book, tell us!
